a smattering of splatters ✨
nestled in tight 🌺
i have what i can only describe as a gift of sorts, an innate ability to listen. for a very long time now people will feel comfortable telling me their stories that they aren’t even fully aware of why they are telling me... some will look at me confused and even say ‘im not sure why i am telling you this’ 🤔
what i have learned is the worst cases of matting were when people stopped taking care of themselves, the cases that got extremely bad had a level of trauma attached to the idea of being kind to themselves. at some point they didn’t see any value in freeing themselves from the prison of knotted hair... until eventually one day they had no choice but to seek out help.
one of the things i have learned from my time working on #dreadlocks as a #hairapist is that your hair is more closely linked to your emotional state than you might think. when lock downs started i was bombarded by messages from people who thought they needed me in that moment... dread emergencies 😉 what they really thought they needed was the reassurance of sitting in my chair and having me play with their hair and telling them that everything was gonna be ok. long time clients who i hadn’t heard from in ages came out of hiding in the mountains with an urgency that was incredibly uncharacteristic. why else would people get so upset over their hair at a time like this? hair is an extension of your nervous system 💁🏻‍♀️
almost eggs, but much softer 🌺
